"The Iron Lady of Oil" collected recyclable trash that had been dumped in the streets.

Maria Das Gracas Silva Foster

Age 59, the first women in the world to head a major oil-gas company. In april 2012 she was on the Time 100 list of the most influential people in the world. In August of the same year, she was recognized as the 20th most powerful woman in the world by Forbes Magazine.

Her road to success was not a cake walk for her, she came from a place which was suffering extremely from poverty and ridden with crime. Over population, drug trafficking, unsanitary conditions, malnutrition were at their peak. In order to pay for her school books, she often collected recyclable trash that had been dumped in the streets.

Today she is the CEO of Brazilian mamoth Petrobas ( major oil-gas company in the world) with revenues over $130 billion which produces 91% of Brazils oil and 90% of its natural gas with over 82,000 employees.

Despite her fame and wealth, she continues to live in apartment, she chooses to travel by taxi, rather than own a car. she is easily recognized and popular with local drivers, who always greet her with a smile, In spite of her ability to afford luxuries that would reflect her standing in the country's social, political and professional circles.

It was not easy to get to where i am. My challenge is to learn to deal with the jokes that are common among men that i heard and continue to hear sometimes among men.
